on a street corner

from a different angle

We can get some inspiration from a different angle.

This photo was taken by my little sister, one of her good works.
We found a stone sculpture from bush. A good idea hit her! Her idea was "Setting this stone against Parthenon and shooting it from low angle". And then she got a good job.

got goose bumps

I was on the top of the Acropolis. When I looked up the great Parthenon, I got goose bumps, I was at a lose for words. Because I could stand at the same place that ancient Greek Philosophers were speculating, having their discussion, speeching.

goofing off in a hotel room

Don't get me wrong! I didn't spend most of the day shooting photos around town.
I enjoyed goofing off in a hotel room, lounge, at pool side bar. You know, with beer in my hand! "Mythos" is local beer, light taste, good for me.

I stayed at Santorini Image Hotel, A class hotel, in Messaria. Messaria locates at center of Santorini, 3km from Fira town. We can get to everywhere by bus in one or two hours, so we have no trouble with sightseeing. But if you want to have a blast at disco, bar and suchlike, you might as well stay at a hotel in Fira town. In Messaria, You get too much time on your hands!

I express my most heartfelt thanks to good staff of "Santorini Image Hotel".

Oia town with no sleep

After enjoying the awesome sunset of Aegean sea, people painted the town!
Every path was full of tourists and others. Laughing, chatting, loud voices from souvenir shops, these funky noise made me excited. I was caught in magic spell in the air.

Oia is good-looking !!

What a photogenic town! Everything, what I saw, was good-looking.
This time I picked up some photos such as sophisticated shop-window.

This shop window looks like a picture frame. We can enjoy a street-gallery on white walls along a narrow and winding path.

It's a pity that I could not shoot this photo when town-lights were on.

delights to my eye

Walking around the town, I can get a precious moment such as a clip from a movie with my luck.
What did this old woman speak to the brown dog? What was her relationship with the dog? ..... This precious moment made me to imagine her story.

I think that just to walk around without curiosity is meaningless. The curiosity will give me some surprises and some discoveries.
The curiosity drove me to shoot this wall with ivy.

Look. A big wave was painted. This big wave is known as "Hokusai's wave" widely. I could not imagine I got a chance to meet "Hokusai"!! I could find out by curiosity. If my curiosity was poor, just I had to walk pass.

Candy-colored Fira town

Walking around Fira town, many many colors caught my eyes. Not only blue color of the sky and vivid color of flower, but pastel colors, such as walls, billboards...., made me to excite. And I enjoyed shower of colors.

Clock tower and white dome, they look like a sugar candy.

Pizzeria with pastel-pink wall. I will not surprise that I find out this pizzeria in the story of "Hansel and Gretel".

The lost civilization of Atlantis

Santorini island is located in south end of Cyclades. In 1626 BC a large scale eruption befallen, and large part of this island was blown off in explosion.
Crescent form of this island is derived from outer rim of a crater which was
formed by the large eruption. And the large eruption gave this island a large scale cliff and variety of landscapes. Sailing into the "Old port", we can see many white house, blue dome... on top of the super cliff. It looks like the super cliff puts on a white crown with blue precious stones.

Santorini has many ruins. It is believed widely that advanced civilization flourished on this island before the eruption. And so, some believes Santorini is The lost civilization of Atlantis.

"Pour voler jusqua Mykonos......"

I got to know Mykonos by listening to Michel Polnareff's love song "Allo Georgina" ,in my junior high school days, about 25 years ago.

At a cafe on the front of "Venetian Port",I recalled some of the words.

"Je voudrais etre un albatros"
"Pour voler jusqua Mykonos......"

(Becoming an albatoros, I would like to fly out to your place Mykonos.)

Now I decided to fly off to Santorini for next my entry.

Today's photo is one of my favorite one. I took this photo outside of Mykonos town.

Just as blue of the sky and white of the walls , so this vivid red color burnt into my memory.

Walking around Mykonos town

I think Mykonos town is a labyrinth of white.
Once stepping in a narrow and winding path , white walls with colorfull toropical flowers and windows lead you to depth of this town. You will lose your way and lose your sense of time. Finaly you must fall under the spell of Mykonos town , you must get wonderful fellings , like me!

Walking around the Mykonos town under the blue sky, blue color of the sky and white color of Mykonos made me realize the meaning of the color of Greece's flag almost.

The Mykonos town have many small churches. The Paraportiani church (following two phots) is the most famous church in this town . The white wall sets off against the blue sky. That's so fantastic!! The Paraportiani has four chapel at four points of the compass. This style is the typical in Cyclades.

Windmills of Mykonos

Windmill of Boni on hill top of Ano Mili.

Here is my favorite view point of Mykonos town. Previous photo and following two photos were taken from here. Blue sky and sea, white mill's body and red door, I like contrast of these colors.

Windmills of KatoMili. The landmark of Mykonos island.

I laid out "white Mykonos town" in forground and "Aegean blue sea" in background. But mills are too small. It's a pity that I didn't have telephoto lens.

Windmill and Sun set.

At twilight I went back to this nice view point. Sure! I wanted to see Mykonian sun set with my ....!!
